Brian is a former professional ice hockey defenseman who transitioned into coaching after an extensive playing career. Born in Hermosa Beach, California, he developed his skills at Shattuck-St. Mary's, a well-known hockey preparatory school, and later played collegiate hockey at Colorado College in the WCHA. Salcido was drafted by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut during the 2008-2009 season.
